During my science unit on animal communication, students completed a pre-test and post-test to show their understanding of how animals use their senses to communicate. Throughout the unit, I also used exit tickets after each lesson as formative assessments to check student understanding and see how students were progressing with the content.
After reviewing the summative assessment results from the post-test, I was able to compare student understanding before and after the unit and see how much students improved. Looking at the data helped me notice patterns in student learning and identify which concepts students understood well and which areas they might need additional support in.
This artifact shows how I use both formative and summative assessments to understand student learning and adjust my instruction to better support all learners.
