This artifact includes materials and a classroom photo from our 4th Grade Idiom Dress-Up Day during our figurative language unit. This activity gave students a student-centered way to show their understanding by choosing an idiom and deciding how they wanted to represent its meaning through costumes, props, visuals, and class discussion. My mentor teacher and I also participated by dressing as “two peas in a pod,” which helped build excitement and showed students that we were part of the learning experience too! Instead of only completing a worksheet, students were able to interact with language in a fun, creative, and meaningful way. Because there were many different ways to participate, the activity supported different learning styles and helped make learning engaging and accessible for all students.
